Today the Mass RMV, actually now know as DOT (Department of Transportation) has announced the winners of the 2011 Plate Lottery.
At one time, low license plate numbers were reserved only for those with positions of status, but in recent years a lottery has been in place so that MA drivers have equitable access to these coveted license plates.
The list of winners, and alternate winners can be found here.
According to the division, The Massachusetts RMV is the oldest motor vehicle administrative agency in America, which issued the first license plate in 1903. Many of the top ten single digit plates that were first given out remain in the same family and are passed down through generations.
